What are the stages of grief?
In 1969, psychiatrist Dr. KĂĽbler-Ross identified five stages of grief. These stages have become instrumental in our ability to learn what occurs during the grieving process. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance are all felt at some point in time by those who are grieving. Perhaps you are familiar with a few of these steps, or maybe you’ve experienced all of them but acceptance. The grieving process is not linear. You can experience these stages of grief in any order. You can even become stuck in one stage, or move back and forth between two or more of them.
While the stages of grief take time to work through, acceptance is always the final stage. If you’re struggling to move past your grief, you have likely not experienced acceptance of your situation. Grief does not necessarily mean you have lost a loved one. You could experience grief over losing a job, a spouse, a home, or any other significant life circumstance which has caused you intense emotional pain and suffering.
How can grief counseling help me?
Grief counseling works by allowing you to explore your emotions and feelings behind your grief. You have probably experienced physical, emotional, social, and spiritual difficulties as you’ve tried to process your feelings. Professional grief or trauma counseling can help you heal holistically, bring you to a point of acceptance, and help you move past your pain.
If you’re struggling with grief and you’re finding it hard to move forward, there is hope. By pursuing counseling in Boca Raton with a qualified professional, you will be well on your way to a path of acceptance and healing.
